I can now put a couple thousand fast moving bullets onscreen with no slowdown and faultless tile collision. This has resulted in a MASSIVE speedup for my application. The other thing I've done is switch from the built in bullet behavior to using the Custom Movement behavior. If there isn't, I move on to the next bullet if there is I do further filtering by tile type to decide what to do (Tile A: bounce bullet, Tile B: destroy tile, Tile C: Destroy bullet & tile, etc.). I'm just testing each bullet once per tick and seeing if there is a tile at the same position. I just bypassed the 'on collision/is overlap' commands by rolling my own. All you can reliably collide with are the borders. It's almost like the interiors of the sub-sections are simply tiled backgrounds. I assumed that you could still tell when an object is inside on of those squares, but apparently you can't. Ashley explained how tilemaps are automatically broken into square sub-sections when you have large areas full of the same kind of tiles. Example: Is overlapping will come up 'no'.Ģ. If the bullet moves too far into a tilemap section without destroying the tile or itself, you can't get collision information. I suppose its similar to how we all still mention how Superman is "able to leap tall buildings in a single bound" despite the fact that he's been more inclined to fly than leap for the vast majority of his history.I've just been dealing with this in my own game, transitioning from a simple roll-your-own tilemap system based around objects to a proper tilemap. Why would she need bulletproof bracelets if her skin is itself bulletproof? Why does she need an invisible jet if she can fly under her own power? But because those things were iconic, they weren't entirely forgotten about. Her powers have gone up and down since then, but generally hew more closely to the invulnerable side of things than her classic power set.Īs a result of those changes, a number of iconic bits of her costume and gadgets from the past became more or less redundant. When George Perez rebooted the character post- Crisis on Infinite Earths, her powers were amped up considerably, to the point where she was only slightly less powerful than Superman. If you shot at her with a decently powered gun, it would most likely do significant damage to her. She was stronger, faster, tougher, and more resilient than the average human, but not massively so. Throughout the Golden and Silver Ages, she was basically just human-plus.
